UGHH! Participial Clauses

To avoid wordiness, two sentences with a repeated noun can be merged (joined) into one sentence. One sentence is changed to a relative clause (adjective clause) that modifies the repeated noun in the other sentence.

The bridge was designed by Joseph Strauss.

(The bridge repeats the proper noun Golden Gate Bridge.)
