A2 Translation Practice (from PV III Gym English Handbook)

Translating from German to English!  Practice makes perfect.  Find answers at the bottom of the exercise. And good luck!

  1. Wann waren die ‚Tic Tac Toe’ berühmt? Ich bin nicht sicher, aber ich meine, sie waren 1998 berühmt. Kennst du ihre Musik? – Ja, sie sind super!

  1. Geniesst sie das Schwimmen? – Ja, aber sie mag das Laufen mehr. Sie läuft jedes Wochenende zehn Kilometer. Sie ist sehr gesund.

  1. Gehören diese Bücher Sam? – Nein, sie gehören Tina. Sie sind sehr schwer, schwerer als meine.Ich kann sie auch nicht tragen. Tina muss sie tragen.

ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS:
1.       When were “Tic Tac Toe” famous?  I’m not sure but I think they were famous in nineteen-ninety eight.  Do you know their music? Yes, they are great!

2.       Does she enjoy swimming?  Yes, but she prefers (likes) running more.  She runs ten kilometers every weekend.  She is very healthy.

3.       Do these books belong to Sam? (Are these Sam’s books?) No, they belong to Tina. (No, they’re Tina’s books) They are (They’re) very heavy, heavier than mine.  I can’t carry them.  Tina has to (must) carry them.

4.        There is butter and bread but no jam.  Can you go to the shop and buy some jam, two liters of milk, a few (some) eggs and some sweets?  Certainly. But I need some money.

5.       Mark is a bad student, but Frank is worse.  Frank is the worst student in the class.

6.       Please don’t speak so loudly!  I can’t hear the music.
