Contrasting the Past Simple and the Past Perfect

The Past Simple Tense tells actions in chronological order in English



e.g. (1) I got up (2) I had a shower (3) I had breakfast (4) You arrived


The Past Perfect Tense tells you what happened before these activities


e.g. I had just eaten breakfast when you arrived....
